In my opinion, any music-related activity is laudable. Jazz is one of my favorite genres and, of course, a day dedicated solely to it should be supported. On this day, young jazzmen get an opportunity to play extensively, and have full rights to present themselves and to officially announce that they exist and do things.

It would be great if every day became Jazz Day, because jazz should be heard more often. There are a lot of talented musicians in our beautiful small Latvia, and jazz clubs and specials events like this are absolutely a must to enable an opportunity for them to play more and jam together.

Jazz Day gives the general public a wonderful opportunity to hear many of the talented Latvian artists in a variety of venues. The organizers of the Jazz Day Latvia demonstrate high level of organization, skill, and managerial ability. This important cultural enhancement project represents the artistic community of Latvia in a positive way and benefits all of the people involved.

I’ve performed and toured all over the world and when I asked who are the best people to talk to regarding concerts in Riga everyone mentioned Wise Music Society. Jazz music is hard work in Latvia and I think it is important to support local Latvian musicians, as well as touring international musicians who can provide a spark to the community.

We can see that jazz Latvia has been growing and developing and jazz events bring the sense of collegiality and good atmosphere.

It’s positive that many people took part and celebrated the day, it was a reason to found many new projects.

I can praise the organisers’ initiative to aim on the local musicians, who nowadays lack qualitative management.

I am happy that there are people who have done such a great job to organize the Jazz Day in the country.

Being musicians, we are more than happy to see that our concerts were attended.

Jazz music genre should by no doubt be supported, as it discloses the idea of free thinking and allows to express one’s current thoughts through music.

Jazz music must remain equal to classical music as classical music won’t sustain without jazz. Origins of it can be heard in many compositions composed by classical musicians while jazz music in many cases is inspired by classical music pieces, creating variations based on the according themes. Also, modern jazz quite rapidly enters our daily rhythm of life.

It is important that the International Jazz Day is organized by the new generation: jazz in Latvia, as a way of making music and engaging youth, is very essential. Jazz is far from being classified as an unimportant genre, if not to say more — jazz is an improvisational music and, thus, a way of thinking.

In order to endure existence of jazz, there should be an ongoing information flow about it. A person who won’t put music on top of existence, who neither knows anything about it or listens to it, often won’t be able to respond the question — what is jazz music? And then, all of a sudden, some information about International Jazz Day appears, and he thinks to himself — oh, this seems interesting!

It is very important that a person who attends a jazz event sees its artistic value and realises that it is a very profound, interesting and creative form of art, something enjoyable — the attitude of people towards jazz ought to be nurtured.
